Use a break resistant, lightweight container for the base of your arrangement, especially if you plan to place it in a child-accessible area, such as a buffet, coffee table or hearth. This will minimize the danger of breakage and injury if it is upset or dropped. Some containers to consider include:
· Acrylic, which is often resembles glass or crystal.
· Baskets and Wood containers, be sure they are well-constructed, with no parts to poke or splinter.
· Resin and fiber resin, which is often made to look like pottery, bronze or stone.
· Metal Tole planters. Be sure to choose one that is well crafted and without sharp edges.
· Cast aluminum pewter, which looks like silver but is lighter and requires no polishing.
· Plastic
· Lightweight metals and coated brass - which requires little or no polishing.
· Fiberstone, which most often resembles pottery or stone.
· Polymer clay, which resembles ceramics and can be painted or faux-finished.
