| | Beyond Babyproofing: High Regard for Breakables and Fragile Decor
As infants "morph" into toddlers another
metamorphosis happens in the home… decorative accents -- all those things that personalize home -- disappear from sight! The move
begins at the coffee table level, then progresses to end tables and shelves,
until every piece of breakable or semi-dangerous décor is stacked precariously
on the top of the entertainment center.
So What's a Style-Conscious Parent To Do?
For the first few years, breakable
accents don't have much place in tabletop decorating. But you don't have
to hide away your favorite pieces -- just do a little decorative reengineering.
Look to your tall shelf units, entertainment center and fireplace mantle
to create interesting displays at higher levels using your more fragile
pieces. Use the lower shelf levels and tabletops to display more durable, kid-friendly décor.
If out-of-reach display space is lacking,
consider installing a few ledge-style shelves directly to the wall or even
over a window. Further protect fragile items by securing them to shelf
surfaces using Quake
Hold Putty or Museum Gel. This removable and reusable adhesive can help protect
items from tips and falls caused by bumping or jarring the table, wall
or shelf unit on which they sit. Quake Hold Putty and Museum Gel also help protect items
from damage during cleaning.
